Mr Weston’s thoughts

A novel to be read and enjoyed on many levels. There is the inevitability of a tragedy where the story reflects and examines the terrible excesses of the human race in an English that in its extraordinary breadth is brilliantly visual.
Despite the cosmic scope of the setting the author manages to convey with an unerring judgement the psychology and beliefs of the principal characters that lead to the dissolution of the race.

5.0 out of 5 stars – Twisted mind.

Baird has the ability to craft huge, bold plot lines and populate them with the most distinctive, entrancing and lovable/hateable characters. This is not your average end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it. He has so much craftsmanship when it comes to building a story from the ground up.

The Jesus man was a vivid, complex and enjoyable piece with some tough content and outstanding imagery that is worth reading and deserves a place on any horror/fantasy/apocalyptic fan’s bookshelf.

First of Ten

The first chapter of my second novel is done. The first 7.5k words. I’m enjoying the freedom I feel with this novel (i.e. I feel I’ve already proved myself with The Jesus Man), not being bound by a story that is already mapped out. The research for it has been very interesting too, I’ve taken in info about navigation, 19th Century ship building, same century advancement in firearms technology and cultural references of the time. Enjoying the history lesson, the reference material I’m having to order and I appreciate the help of local sailor Craig Robinson, a source of invaluable information!
